Editor’s Note: Rev. Kenneth Sicard, O.P., acting president, shared the following message with the College community today.

Dear Members of the Providence College Community:

I am deeply saddened to announce that PC sophomore Augustus Cardello, 19, of Westport, Conn., passed away during the night in his residence hall room.

There will be a special Mass at 4:30 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 12, in St. Dominic Chapel to remember Augustus and to allow the campus to come together in mourning and prayer. Following the Mass, a gathering will take place in the Campus Ministry Center in the lower level of the chapel. Counselors from the Personal Counseling Center, as well as members of the chaplain’s office, will be present at that time, and will be available throughout the weekend.

The Office of the Dean of Students (401-865-1782), the Office of Residence Life, the Personal Counseling Center, and the Student Health Center will be open today until 6 p.m. and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. tomorrow for any member of our community who needs their assistance. St. Dominic Chapel and the Campus Ministry Center will be open on a 24-hour basis. Members of the chaplain’s office are also available at any time at 401-213-8020.

I ask everyone in our campus community to please keep Augustus and his family in your prayers. College President Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P. is out of town, but he has been informed and is keeping the Cardello family and the entire campus community in his prayers as well.
