Small classes, individualized advising, and collaborative research remain trademarks of our program. You’ll be engaged through classroom learning and professionally supervised internships — engagement opportunities that prepare you for immediate employment or graduate school.
For 40 years, graduates of our program have gained employment as clinical counselors, child welfare advocates, social policy developers, and program directors — among many other professions. They know what it means to “do good” and “do well.”
DEGREE PROGRAMS
Bachelor of Arts in Social Work
The major in social work combines 13 required classes in social work with a total of 600 hours of professionally supervised internships in community health, human service, and human service agencies. Course work focuses on human behavior, social problems and policies, diversity, at-risk populations, and the nature of the professional-helping relationship. Theories, research methods, and skills for problem solving with individuals, families, groups, and communities are also a major part of the curriculum.The field placement curriculum is spread throughout the junior and senior year and combines professionally supervised experience with classroom seminars. Students can work with at-risk children and youth, homeless families, survivors of domestic violence, people with developmental delays, and the elderly through a wide variety of community agencies.

Our faculty members bring years of experience in a variety of social work practice fields including child treatment, mental health, adoptions, family therapy, domestic violence, sexual assault/abuse, community development, social and political advocacy, and program administration.
